One year ago today...

A wild ride began. After feeling a bit off for a few days, I bit the bullet and took a pregnancy test. It was (very) positive. That was, quite literally, only the beginning. Over the next 9 months, we endured many scares, including emergency surgery in the dead of night at only 5 weeks along because it was believed the pregnancy was ectopic. Needless to say, those first few weeks were a whirlwind.

And it all started with this...

I walked out of the bathroom and handed this to Jose. His smile said it all. The eternal optimist. He immediately curtailed my lifting of Sofia. He reminded me more times than I can count to be sure to call the doctor first thing the next morning. And before we fell asleep, he rubbed my belly for good luck. A scene played out countless more times over the next 9 months. I think the words "I just can't believe it" came out of my mouth about every 11 seconds. Jose swears he knew.

In some ways that seems so long ago but in most it seems like it all just happened. How can a year have passed already? And here we are with a 4 month old who defied the odds to get here.

Yes, one year ago today, our world was turned upside down in the best, scariest, most stressful, exciting and amazing way.
